About Us
The mission of the Tarleton Business and International Education Initiative (BIEI), funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, is to further internationalize the College of Business Administration curriculum by giving faculty, students and the area business community opportunities for increased international exposure and expertise. The U.S. Department of Education Business and International Education Program annually "provides funds to IHEs that enter into agreements with trade associations and businesses to improve the academic teaching of the business curriculum and to conduct outreach activities that expand the capacity of the business community to engage in international economic activities." The program is authorized under Title VI, part B, of the Higher Education Act. The Tarleton Business and International Education Initiative (BIEI) was one of 29 selected from a field of over 100 applicants for the 2006-2008 award. Dr. Janis Petronis, Professor in the Management, Marketing, and Administrative Systems Department submitted the grant proposal for the purpose of further internationalizing the College of Business Administration curriculum by giving faculty, students, and the areas business community opportunities for increased international exposure and expertise. The Tarleton BIEI was funded at $97,500 for 2006-2007 and $98,000 for 2007-2008. In order to totally expend funds, the time period has been extended to include the 2008-2009 academic year. The Tarleton BIEI grant, administered by Dr. Petronis as Project Director; and student staff members Ms. Devan Brannan, Ms. Ana Garcia. The BIEI Advisory Board is an integral part of the oversight of the grant including final approval for all travel awards.
