Students majoring in Agricultural Services &
Development for a bachelor of science degree may choose from three emphasis areas:
agricultural science teacher certification, extension and industry, or agricultural
communication.
The Agricultural Services & Development teacher
certification degree program has a long reputation of being one
of the largest programs in the nation. For several years, we have
certified more high school agricultural science teachers than any
other university in the United States. The program is of high
quality with a large number of Texas agricultural teachers having graduated
from the program, and it has an excellent reputation with school
administrators, as well as the agricultural industry.
The extension and
industry option is a broad-based agricultural degree program
allowing the student to specialize in an area of agriculture or
business. The degree program provides agricultural instruction in
animal science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, horticulture,
and sales and professional development through Agricultural Services
& Development courses.
The agricultural communication program in
Agricultural Services & Development provides the student with both
agricultural and communication skills. The program contains coursework in both the agricultural and communication fields. Most students have an added minor in communication on their diploma! In addition, the last semester
of the program includes professional development training and a
12-week internship with an agricultural communication-related
business. Internships include placement with agricultural
publications, radio stations, livestock organizations, commodity
groups, and governmental agencies that provide communication opportunities.
The international agricultural services degree
was created for students interested in the progressive field of
international agriculture. The degree offers a solid and diversified
educational curriculum. In addition to a strong base in agricultural
courses, courses in marketing, international marketing,
international business, sociology of American multi-culture,
agricultural sales and services and a foreign language prepare
students for the final step in this unique program.
The agrisystem management degree option serves as a vehicle to assist students in developing skills related to the management aspect of the agricultural mechanics field. Students will enjoy courses in all areas of agricultural mechanics, along with courses related to business, marketing, and retailing. Through this sequence of coursework, graduates will be well prepared to develop into managers and supervisors in farm machinery dealerships, irrigation and fabrication companies, and other related industries.
The interdisciplinary agriculture program encompasses all areas of
agriculture. As an interdisciplinary agricultural major, students will
experience courses from most areas of agricultural instruction. This
foundation prepares students for careers ranging from farm and ranch
management to agricultural entrepreneurship. The general agricultural
major also allows a student to establish himself or herself in the
agricultural college and possibly change to another area of study
during their undergraduate experience.
