The course has two parts, both of which must be completed to fulfill this university requirement. To complete Part 1, follow the instructions below. You will need a computer with internet access and audio capabilities. Please be sure to use the correct one to receive credit:
1. Go to: http://college.alcoholedu.com/login.aspx
2.Under “New User” enter the following Login IDs:
9C228529FIRSTYEAR
Freshmen (& transfer with less than 30 hrs): 9C228529FIRSTYEAR
3. Click “Sign Up” and follow the on-screen prompts to set up your personal account. Use your go.tarleton.edu email address!
4. After setting up your account, the next time you log onto AlcoholEdu, you will need to log in as a “Returning User” and will enter the same email address and password that you created when you first logged into the course.
5. Part 1 of the course takes about 3 hours to complete and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. However, although you can log in and out at any time, it is best to do so at the end of each section. Section ends are marked with a “Next” button. If you log out before clicking on the “Next” button, you will have to repeat the section that you have just completed when you log back in.
6. Part 1 ends with Survey 2 and an Exam. You will need to earn a grade of 70% or higher to pass and receive credit for the course. Part 1 of the course must be completed by August 23, 2009 .
The AlcoholEdu Online Technical Support Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply click on the “Technical Help” button located in the upper right-hand corner of your AlcoholEdu page. You do not have to be logged into the course to access the Technical Support Center.
About 30 days after you complete Part 1, you will receive an email with instructions on how to complete Part 2 (which takes about 15 minutes). Deadline for Part 2 is October 31, 2009.
Please note that AlcoholEdu includes three surveys that measure students’ alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors. All survey responses are confidential. Tarleton will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will not see individual students’ answers. You can feel confident that providing truthful answers – no matter what they are – will not put you at any risk for repercussions.
Our ultimate goal with this course is to help you succeed and to meet your academic goals. We have found that the course provides students with tools that can be helpful in dealing with new found freedoms and responsibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to take AlcoholEdu?
Yes, if you are a freshman. AlcoholEdu is a university requirement for all first time freshmen and freshmen with less than 30 transfer hours.
I transferred from another school and I took AlcoholEdu there. Do I have to take it again at Tarleton?
If you took AlcoholEdu at another college last year (2008-2009 only, not earlier), you may be eligible to opt out. You must provide proof from the AlcoholEdu administrator at the other college. To get more info, contact Doug Smith (254)968-9912.
When can I start taking the course?
Any time after August 1, 2009.
How long is the course?
(a) The course has two sections, Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 takes approximately 3 hours to complete (we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings). (b) About 30 days after you complete Part 1, you will receive an email asking you to complete Part 2. Part 2 takes about 15 minutes. Both Part 1 and Part 2 must be completed to meet university requirements.
Is there a deadline?
Yes. The deadline for completing Part 1 is August 23, 2009. The deadline to complete Part 2 is October 31, 2009. These deadlines CANNOT be extended.
Will I be tested on the information?
Yes. To complete Part 1, you must pass a test by 70% or higher. Otherwise you will not receive credit for the course.
What happens if I do not complete by the deadline?
You will be in violation of not completing a university requirement. Therefore:
- A letter will be sent to the Judicial Affairs office stating that you are in violation. It will be put in your file. To remove this letter from your file, you must complete AlcoholEdu. If you have an alcohol related violation anytime while at Tarleton, the consequences rendered by Judicial Affairs will be more severe.
- It will affect your ability to be hired in several jobs and to be selected for leadership positions in the Division of Student Life (e.g. in Student Activities, Leadership, Greek, Dining Hall, Residential Living & Learning, etc). This is because not meeting this university requirement shows a lack of follow through, that you may not be dependable to meet expectations, etc.
What if I have technical problems?
There is an AlcoholEdu 24/7 Technical Support Center:
- Go to http://college.alcoholedu.com. On the top right hand corner there is a button called “Technical Help.” This will give you access to on-line help.
- You can also call technical assistance at 1-866-384-9062
Can you change/correct my email address? I am not getting email reminders.
No, but you can make changes yourself in “Duck Trax.” Contact the Registrar’s Office (254)968-9121 for assistance.
Will I get academic credit for taking AlcoholEdu?No. If you are taking DGS/Freshman Seminar class, the instructors have incorporated AlcoholEdu into the course. However, you do not get academic credit for AlcoholEdu by itself.
Can I substitute AlcoholEdu with an alcohol class I have taken elsewhere?
No, there are no substitutes.
