Agribusiness Incubator

CULTIVATING A FERTILE ENVIRONMENT

OVERVIEW OF THE AGRIBUSINESS INCUBATOR

Diversifying Texas's formidable agriculture base will help create new businesses and new jobs. Getting ideas into the marketplace is always risky. Many new projects fail due to lack of working capital, poor business management or weak organizational skills. With proper nurturing, these projects can take root and eventually flourish. The national success rate of new businesses started within a business incubator is over 80 percent.

TSU's Agribusiness Incubator (ABI) provides basic services to agribusinesses. Owners and managers of small businesses often face the problems of needing more personnel, better equipment, additional support services or more efficient administration. These pieces of the puzzle may be out of reach to many small businesses. The ABI helps put the puzzle together by providing professional existance to "grow" new businesses. The connection of Tarleton's ABI to the Texas A&M University System provides client convenient access to other parts of the Texas A&M University System including the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, and Texas A&M University.

DIVERSIFICATION, NEW JOBS, SMART BUSINESS

The ABI is committed to nurturing viable agribusinesses to success by partnering innovative thinkers with effective management. Everyone involved reaps a harvest--expanded jobs and markets, new technology and unique opportunities.

WHAT DOES THE AGRIBUSINESS INCUBATOR PROVIDE?

The ABI provides business planning, feasibility studies, conferences, workshops, networking, technical assistance, legal and financial referrals, and mentorship with successful business professionals. A unique aspect of the ABI is identifying senior undergraduates and graduate students to collaborate on projects to supplement their academic studies. Tarleton's ABI is a joint project of the College of Agriculture and Technology and College of Business Administration. Additional assistance may be available through Tarleton's Small Business Development Center and Small Business Institute, as well as from the Texas A&M University System.
