What minimum entry requirements are needed to participate in NCELP?

A valid teaching certificate.

AND

Certified educator candidates with graduate degrees: a 3.0 grade-point-average; 3 years teaching experience; 2 years successful experience in a position with leadership responsibilities such as serving on campus-wide committees.

OR

Certified educator candidates with bachelor's degrees: a 3.0 grade-point-average on the last 60 hours and 3 years teaching experience and 2 years successful experience in a position with leadership responsibilities such as serving on campus-wide committees.

AND

Acceptable GRE scores.


If I already have a master's degree, can I just get principal certification?

No. NCELP is an all encompassing program in which students enroll. There are distinctions between the masters component and the certification component.


Are all participants who meet the minimum entry requirements accepted into the program?

No. Potential NCELP candidates must successfully complete all admission activities including: In Basket simulation, Interview with selection committee, and Presentation to selection committee concerning a campus improvement activity.


Upon acceptance to the program, does NCELP guarantee placement with a supporting school district?

No, It is the responsibility of the student.


What is the responsibility of the supporting school district?

Nominate and support outstanding potential leaders in the school district.

Assign a local administrator to mentor each participant.

Allow necessary release time for participant to attend Academic Year Instructional Seminars (one to two days per month).

Encourage and support School Improvement Projects to be conducted by participant.

Offer suggestions for improving the leadership development process.


What are the responsibilities of the mentor principal?

The mentor principal guides the NCELP student through the 18-month field based component. He/she is required to complete an on-line training. The mentor receives a $450.00 stipend.


What fees for participants are associated with program?

Application fee to Tarleton Graduate School - $25.00.

Cost of books, supplies, ExCET/TeXes examination and certification.
If the program fees are not paid for by the district, participants are responsible for the payment.


What fees for supporting districts are associated with the program?

Annual salary for participant.
Proposed Program Fees - $4000
These fees may be deducted from the participant's salary at the discretion of the district.

 

NCELP has been approved by the Texas Education Agency and is subject to any changes mandated by the State Board of Educators Certification as well as other improvement adjustments.
