Steps for Achieving WI Designation

Steps for Achieving WI Designation

Either faculty members or Department Heads can submit existing courses for WI approval. Be sure that your Department Head and your department’s two Curriculum Committee members know when you are sending a Writing Intensive course through the curriculum process. They will be notified that a Writing Intensive course is ready for their approval.

When you are ready to send your Writing Intensive course through the curriculum process for WI designation and approval, (1) save and complete the two WI pdf forms you will find inside the Electronic Curriculum Managements System, and then (2) complete the steps you will find for creating a new curriculum item.

(1) To create the two necessary course forms:
  1. Click on the Electronic Curriculum Management System link.
  2. Click on the "Login to My Locations" link.
  3. Login > Use your Tarleton Username and Password (the one that you use for your email and that changes periodically).
You will see your Curriculum Locations.
  4. Click on the link for your home department
This will take you to a page that has three links across the top:
Curriculum Home | My Locations | Submit Document
  5. Click on the "Submit Document" link.
  6. In the "Current Form Templates" box, click on the "Show/Hide Template Listing" button to expand the list of templates available.
  7. Under the Curriculum Management System Companion/Master Documents choices, open and save the PDF Document "WI_Master_Syllabus_Template" form.
  8. Under the Curriculum Management System Designation Form choices, open and save the PDF Document "Writing_Intensive_Template" form.
  9. Complete and save these two pdf forms.
Feel free to save these documents with names that make sense to you.
Also, you can exit the system and finish your work on these forms later if necessary.
(2) To submit course for WI Designation:

When you have completed and saved the two forms listed above in steps 7 and 8, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the "Electronic Curriculum Management System" link.
  6. Complete the questions asked in "Step 1, Describe the Form."
  7. From the drop-down list asking for document type, select Writing Intensive Designation.
  8. In "Step 2, Upload Form Document," click the Browse button and find your completed and saved Writing Intensive Template form.
  9. In "Step 3 - Upload Companion/Master Document," click the Browse button the find your completed and saved WI Master Syllabus Template form.
  10. Finally, click the Submit button and send your course on its way!

Your WI proposal will then go to your College Curriculum Committee. When it passes your College Curriculum Committee, it will go on to Edit and Review, and then to the WIP Committee for WI approval. Your request for WI designation will then go to the University Curriculum Committee and eventually to the Academic Council. When your course completes this approval process, its WI designation is good for three years.
