All degree programs leading to the baccalaureate degree include the following requirements: 1,2

Communications

9 hours

ENGL 13015, ENGL 13023 = 6 hours
COMM 13115 or COMM 1315 or COMM 2302 = 3 hours

Mathematics

3 hours

Math 13145 or higher3 = 3 hours

Lab Sciences

8 hours

2 courses from BIOL-14065, CHEM-14115, GEOL, or PHYS = 8 hours

Visual and Performing Arts

3 hours

1 course from ARTS, HUMA, FINA, MUSI, DRAM, or THEA4 = 3 hours

Humanities

3 hours

Any literature course in English, or HIST2321 or 2322, or PHIL 1301 = 3 hours

Social and Behavioral Sciences

15 hours

HIST 1301 and HIST 1302 = 6 hours
GOVT 2305 and GOVT 2306 = 6 hours

and

1 course from the following:
SOC 1301, PSYC 2301, PHIL 2303, PHIL 3301
ECO 1301, ECO 2301, AGEC 2317,
ENGR 2303, ENGT 2303, GEOG 1303,
GEOG 1320, GEOG 2301, ANTH 2302, ANTH 2351 = 3 hours

Total General Education Requirements = 42 hours

  1. General Education Requirements are subject to review and change by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
  2. A student should consult with an academic advisor in selecting general education requirement courses.
  3. Students must enroll in these classes as outlined in the Placement, Continuing Enrollment, and Completion Rules for Freshman-Level Mathematics and English Courses.
  4. Visual and performing arts course must be historical, appreciative, or theoretical in nature; it may not be an applied or performance course. Courses that meet this requirement are ARTS 1301, 1303, 1304, 3331; HUMA 1315, FINA 1335, 1360; MUSI 1303, 1306, 1310, 3325; THEA 4304; DRAM 1310, 2361.
  5. Bold courses are specific class requirements (17 credits) in order to satisfy minimum prerequisites for AVMA certification.
