TMATE Stephenville & Killeen
Attending a TMATE-Stephenville or TMATE-Killeen information meeting will give you:
- an overview of the program, including the scope and sequence of activities and everyone's roles and responsibilities.
- an explanation of the professional standards on which the program is based.
- information about entry requirements, graduate credit received, test and deadline dates, and estimated costs.
- a chance to ask questions about TMATE.
Being at an information meeting will introduce you to people like you who are considering becoming teachers, will help you make your decision about teaching, and will clarify the application process.
TMATE-Stephenville courses are taught in the Howell Education Building on the main campus in Stephenville. TMATE-Killeen courses are taught on the Tarleton-Central Texas campus and in Killeen ISD facilities.
Tarleton has cordial, long-term working relationships with teachers and administrators in the over 300 school districts and 2,000 public schools within 120 miles driving distance of Stephenville and within a two-county tier area around the Killeen campus. Within this service area, job opportunities range from small rural K-8 districts where the school and its activities are the heart of the community to large suburban and urban schools with diverse student populations and activities. The network of TMATE-trained teachers now employed in nearby school districts helps identify job opportunities and supports TMATE interns during their first year of teaching. School principals may find TMATE-trained teachers' solid reputation and record of excellent teaching performance an incentive to hire TMATE interns.
Tarleton's Office of Career Services is another resource for TMATE interns looking for first year teaching positions.
