Early Childhood - 6th Grade Generalist

In your Bachelor's Degree, semester hours (sh) are the course hours for which you received credit. To be considered academically prepared, your certification area must have a total of 24 semester hours in the following combination of subjects with at least a 2.75 grade point average (GPA) and no grade lower than a "C." None of these courses are required to be upper level hours.

Public school curriculum that may be taught under this certificate include Art, Health, Music, Physical Education, English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Early Childhood 6th Grade Academic Requirements

In order to teach Qualifying coursework recorded on official transcripts

EC-6 Generalist

with English as a Second Language

and

EC-6 Bilingual Generalist

offered at TMATE-FWISD only

24 semester hours (sh) consisting of:

  • 3 sh English
  • 3 sh Mathematics (college algebra or above
  • 3 sh Laboratory Science (biology, physics, chemistry, earth science)
  • 3 sh Social Science (history, government/political science,economics or geography)
  • 12 additional sh in combination of the disciplines above
