TMATE Program Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are:
- A bachelor's degree or better from a regionally accredited university. Applicants with an out-of-country degree must have their transcripts equivocated by an approved agency.
- An overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.75
- A 2.75 GPA in your certification area - please click on TMATE Program for available certifications and coursework requirements for each under the Academic Qualifications heading
- At least a 2.5 GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework in order to meet Tarleton Graduate School admission requirements
- Acceptable scores on the General GRE for those who intend to count TMATE coursework towards Master's Degree
- 30 hours of classroom observation in the intended certification area (please contact the TMATE Office where you intend to apply for further information)
- An oral interview session and completion of an essay
TMATE is considered a graduate program because TMATE participants have earned their Bachelor's Degree and therefore, in order to register for classes, must also apply and qualify for admission to the Tarleton College of Graduate Studies. Graduate admission requirements depend on whether you are applying to complete the TMATE program for certification only or as a Master's Degree candidate.
Past Students
Curiously, teaching the subject matter has been the least concern of my first year of teaching. I have learned that the role of a teacher goes far beyond imparting knowledge of a subject to students.
--Ken Frazier, 2006-2007
I can't remember a year in college when I learned as much as I did this year. I might have to learn more bookwork, but I learned more about myself this year.
--Conan Sachsenmeyer, 2006
