Welcome to TMATE!
You could make the difference in a child's life!
The Tarleton Model for Accelerated Teacher Education, TMATE program, is a year-long graduate program for highly motivated people with a bachelor's degree, who want to become certified school teachers. TMATE's reputation as an exemplary teacher certification program makes TMATE participants very attractive candidates for school districts seeking to hire beginning teachers.
TMATE courses prepare you to teach during one semester. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturdays in Fort Worth. Classes may be offered in other locations with a large enough enrollment. Successful completion of the coursework and securing a teaching position allows you to teach during the fall and spring as a TMATE intern with a Probationary Certificate. During your paid internship year, a mentor teacher and TMATE staff provide advice and encouragement. Interns also participate in multiple Saturday sessions during the fall and spring semesters. At the satisfactory conclusion of the internship, you will be recommended for the Standard Texas Teaching Certificate.
TMATE is committed to improving the education of children and youth in the State of Texas - one classroom at a time. TMATE was established in 1986 at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. It was the first university-based approved alternative teacher certification program in Texas. Since then more than 2,000 people have made successful career transitions into the teaching profession through TMATE.
