Available Opportunities

TMATE is committed to improving the education of children and youth in the State of Texas - one classroom at a time.

The Tarleton Model for Accelerated Teacher Education (TMATE) program helps highly motivated people who already have a bachelor's degree become certified teachers in Texas.

With small classes and personal attention, TMATE offers thorough preparation for classroom teaching. The pre-internship graduate level courses introduce you to the art and science of teaching. During your paid internship year, a mentor teacher and TMATE staff provide advice and encouragement while you apply what you are learning in the fall and spring classes.

TMATE's reputation as an exemplary teacher certification program and the classroom success of its almost 2,000 graduates make TMATE participants very attractive candidates for school districts seeking to hire beginning teachers.

Alternative teacher certification programs like TMATE are regulated by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). You can't just "take a test and become a certified teacher." You must complete an approved program.

So...make the difference... Let TMATE help you become more than just a teacher, become an education professional!

TExES Generalist Workshop

New Information

A new Federal interpretation of guidelines established for the "Highly Qualified" teacher states that middle school content teachers who teach or intend to teach grades 4-6 must also present passing scores on the 4-8 Generalist TExES in addition to the specific content area TExES. Due to this interpretation, all applicants pursuing certification as a 4-8 Content Area teacher are strongly advised to complete the 4-8 Generalist TExES and submit scores by Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in order to be considered highly qualified for employment.

TExES Generalist Workshop

TMATE offers an optional TExES Generalist workshop to help applicants prepare for the EC-6 Generalist and 4-8 Generalist TExES. The 5 session workshop meets on Wednesdays from 6-9 and Saturdays from 9-4 beginning in March. Actual session dates are provided on the Registration Form.

Cost of the workshop is $250 and registration deadline is February 24, 2010.

Testimonies

My life will never be the same. I fell in love with my chosen profession and all the challenges I wake up to face every day. The least of my worries was teaching content. That is the easy part...

Teaching is more difficult than I thought. I now see that teaching is hard work. It is also a tremendous responsibility and not to be taken lightly. I must go into the classroom every day being prepared and confident. Molding young minds is a serious task requiring considerable energy, enthusiasm and patience.
