The Tarleton State University Equine Center was abuzz Saturday night when the Horseman’s Association hosted its second annual Ranch Rodeo competition. At least a hundred or more people were in the stands rooting for their favorite teams. Teams were timed on how fast they could pen, load, doctor, mug a cow, and then get back to base in less than seven minutes.

Taking home top honors was Slash 9 Ranch.  In second was Diamond A Ranch, followed by third place Heart L Ranch. The top 3 bronc riders were first place Cullen Bryon, second place Kody Roda and third place Waylon Davis.

Spencer Thompson was one of the many competitors vying for the top prize in the bronc riding and the team event. “I got bucked off my bucking horse. It was just too much horse and not enough rider,” he said. “But my team is sitting in second place so it’s going pretty well.”

Spectators Mackenzie Ray and Emilee Haubner were enthusiastic about what was going on while their Tarleton friends were competing. Ray said, “I have never been to a Ranch Rodeo before. You learn so much and it is fun to watch.”

Although many of the members of the Horseman’s Association team were busy working the Ranch Rodeo, they cheered for their favorite teams.

Alyssa Byrd, a Tarleton freshman and a member of the Horseman’s Association, said, “It’s one of the experiences that you can’t really explain until you go through it. It is pretty exciting!”
