Why Criminal Justice?
The Need...

Due to the interaction of political, economic and social forces within our society, present indications are that criminal justice graduates should find their knowledge and skills in demand during the Twenty-first Century.  Many opportunities currently exist, and undoubtedly more will arise, for well-educated and adequately-prepared graduates in law enforcement, corrections (probation, prison, parole, etc.), juvenile programs, the courts (including court administration), legal organization, private security, and in various other positions in the public and private sectors.

Career Days

Once each year, students in Criminal Justice are given the opportunity to meet Federal, State and local criminal justice agency representatives who are invited to attend Career Day activities by the University Placement Office.  Throughout the day, students can interview, discuss, and become knowledgeable of each representation and the type of requirements for acceptance into the agencies.  With approximately 275 Criminal Justice majors, each Career Day the number of represented agencies increase.  In addition, all students are welcome to utilize Tarleton's Career Services Office for possible job opportunities.

Criminal Justice Courses

Tarleton State University’s Criminal Justice Program is dedicated to studying the maintenance of social order in our complex society.  From a global perspective, students learn the intricacies of the Criminal Justice System and its operations, including agency management and administration, corrections, policing, and juvenile justice.  Our well grounded program prepares students to enter such challenging career fields as corrections, probation, parole, juvenile services, law enforcement, homeland security, and victim services in a variety of agencies at the federal, state, and local levels as well as the private sector.

Students are able to specialize in law enforcement or corrections through two tracks containing both general and specialized criminal justice courses such as:
