Video games are a truly amazing invention.  With computer hardware advancing so rapidly, video games have advanced alongside.  It can be incredibly fun to test your skills against opponents both AI and humans over the internet.  The humans can be extremely difficult to deal with sometimes, but playing against 16 or sometimes even 30+ opponents with a team working with you can bring some truly great moments. 

Of course video games can be a distraction and an escape, which is not good.  If I keep the right perspective and play not as an escape, but for pure fun and to interact with other humans, video games can be a supplement and not a detriment.

Granted, there are a lot of horrible, violent, distasteful video games but I stay away from those!
