Ed Arnett is Director of Science and Policy at Bat Conservation International (BCI). He joined BCI in 2004, serving as a Conservation Scientist and Program Coordinator for the Bats and Wind Energy Cooperative and Director of Programs prior to his current position with BCI. Dr. Arnett currently oversees wind energy research and policy, international wind energy issues, advises the Executive Director and BCI staff on science and policy issues, provides guidance on development of regulations, policies and guidelines with Federal and state agencies and local governments, and oversees special projects for BCI.

He received a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Montana State University, an M.S. in Zoology and Physiology from the University of Wyoming, and a Ph.D. in Forest Science from Oregon State University. Prior to working at BCI, Dr. Arnett was a research biologist for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company and a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service.

Dr. Arnett has studied bats since 1995, focusing extensively on habitat ecology of forest bats. He has led research efforts on bats and wind energy development since 2004, and recently served on a Federal Advisory Committee for the Department of Interior that developed recommendations for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service guidelines for wind energy and wildlife.  He also chaired The Wildlife Society’s technical review committee on wind energy impacts and drafted TWS's position statement ion wind and wildlife.  He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and popular articles on wildlife science and management, including several on wind energy development and wildlife impacts.
