Freshman recipients must demonstrate financial need, be accepted to Tarleton, and have passed all parts of the TASP (now THEA) test. Upper division recipients must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, show financial need, demonstrate participation in leadership training and extra curricular activities. Established in December 1995 by Mr. Paul Cunyus and family. Mr. Cunyus came to Tarleton in the early 1920s from his home in East Texas. He completed two years at John Tarleton Agriculture College majoring in agriculture. Upon graduation he transferred to Texas A&M, where he received his bachelor and master degrees. After World War II he returned to Tarleton as the associate dean and served in that capacity for 25 years. He retired in the early 1970s. Mr. Cunyus passed away in 1996. His wife, Opal, preceded him in death. |

| Criteria: | This scholarship will be given to students majoring in agriculture with teacher certification, fine arts with certification or education. Recipients must show financial need, maintain full-time student status or 6 semester hours for non-traditional students, and maintain a 2.75 GPA. High school graduates must meet requirements for “regular” admissions and demonstrate scholastic ability. |
