The Joy Gallant Archer Scholarship was established in 1999 by a gift from the will of Joy Gallant Archer. Mrs. Archer, who died at the age of 83, was a private individual who had little formal education and worked hard for what she achieved in life. Various donors created the Uta Davis Scholarship as a memorial scholarship. Mrs. Davis was the wife of J. Thomas Davis who served as Dean of John Tarleton Agricultural College during the 1940s.

First preference will be given to those students from the Selden community with next consideration given to students from Erath County. Recipient must be a Texas resident and a US citizen. Recipient must also demonstrate a good moral character and must not be on academic or disciplinary probation of any type currently or previously at TSU, and must show financial need.

Recipient must be a full-time student at Tarleton State University, an undergraduate student at Tarleton State University.
Former participants are eligible to apply as long as they have maintained a 2.0 GPA in the preceding year.
