STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s marching band, The Sound & The Fury, will help usher in the annual State Fair of Texas as part of opening day festivities which kicks off with the downtown parade in Dallas.

The Sound & The Fury, under the direction of Dr. Gary Westbrook, will appear in the parade at noon on Friday, Sept. 27. Tarleton’s 145-member marching band is one of several that have been extended an invitation to participate in the downtown parade and will serve as the parade’s second entry, just behind the color guard that will lead the procession.

“We are pleased to rekindle the Tarleton tradition, of participating in the Texas State Fair parade, that dates back to the 1920s,” said Dr. Westbrook, assistant professor and director of athletic bands. “The Sound & The Fury is thankful for this and any opportunity to serve Tarleton State University.”

Spectators can catch The Sound & The Fury anywhere along the parade route, which begins at the intersection of Houston and Main streets near Dealey Plaza and continues along Main Street before disbanding at Good Latimer Expressway.

Later in the day, the band will participate in the Starlight Parade at the state fairgrounds, which begins at 7:15 p.m. The Sound & The Fury is the only marching band to participate in the evening parade.

As part of their weekend appearances, The Sound & The Fury will perform an exhibition marching routine at W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to their halftime performance during the Tarleton Texans’ football game against Abilene Christian University at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium. Kick off is set for 4 p.m.
