STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio is joining the ranks of more than half a billion worldwide users of Twitter, the social media network that’s all the rage among members of the Millennial Generation.

Dottavio’s Twitter handle is @tarletonprez.

“Twitter is a good way for me me to stay plugged into our student body,” Dottavio said.  “I want to communicate with students using Twitter because so many of them are using it. Our new Strategic Plan's Vision statement drives us to be ‘the premiere student-focused university in Texas,’ and this is one way I will remain focused on students.”

The president added that social media is now “a fundamental part of how our culture communicates. … Some would argue that it has fundamentally changed the way we interact socially and choose to communicate with those around us.”

And from a business perspective, Dottavio added, “the use of social media is critically important to marketing and branding the university, which has been identified as yet another important component of the 2020 Strategic Plan.”

Dottavio is believed to be the second university president in the A&M University System to have a Twitter account. Texas A&M University President R. Bowen Loftin has tweeted for some time.

Twitter was created in 2006 and now has over 500 million registered users worldwide. Tarleton State’s Twitter account has more than 5,000 followers.

Users of the social media network can also follow Tarleton on Twitter using the university’s handle: @tarletonstate.
