STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Construction has begun on a new 40-space parking lot just east of the new Welcome Center and directly behind the Conoco station at Washington and McIlhaney streets.

Tarleton speeded up construction of the lot due to the City of Stephenville shutting down McIlhaney Street for road reconstruction starting around May 13 through August, said a statement from Facilities Services. The goal is to have the concrete parking lot substantially complete by May 15.

The Tarleton police department/parking office has not yet made space assignments.

The new lot is an expansion of the existing P-9 parking lot adjacent to the Alumni Center, and more spaces will be added once the two remaining properties on McIlhaney are razed.

The total cost of the project is $199,000. The general contractor is Alpha Corporation and the subcontractor is MSU industries.
