STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The Department of Criminal Justice has received $39,600 in funding from the United Arab Emirates to conduct an International Professional Policing seminar this summer.

Senior police officers from the Abu Dhabi Police Department will attend an 80 hour course on professional policing, including community policing, cultural issues and views, and law enforcement leadership and management.

“The criminal justice student enrollment has experienced enormous growth over the last few years, but the international component takes the department to a higher level,” said Dr. James Vardalis, department head and associate professor. “This type of exchange and global exposure in an open classroom setting is invaluable to both students and faculty.”

Last year, Vardalis traveled to the United Arab Emirates to lecture at the Abu Dubai Police College. There, he discussed the idea of a seminar with local police officials.

The Department of Criminal Justice, in cooperation with the Fort Worth Police Department, will be provide the course at Tarleton’s Southwest Metroplex campus and police department facilities.
