STEPHENVILLE, Texas—A composition by Tarleton’s Director of Choirs Dr. Troy Robertson will be performed by the Florida State University Singers at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association.

The composition, titled This Mystery, was created especially for Florida State’s University Singers, a mixed choir group that will perform the a cappella piece on Friday, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the Winspear Opera House, and again on Saturday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Meyerson Symphony Center, both in Dallas. Both performances coincide with the ACDA convention.

Robertson’s composition received its premier in February during the 65th anniversary reunion of the University Singers, which took place on the Florida State campus in Tallahassee, Fla.

“Dr. Kevin Fenton asked me to write this piece late in the summer, and I spent perhaps two months working on it,” said Robertson. “At the time, I didn’t realize he was still looking for another piece to perform at the ACDA convention, but I was honored to be writing for the Florida State University Singers, nonetheless.

“Since completing the piece I’ve had the chance to hear a recording and Skyped with the choir for a rehearsal Q&A session. They’ve done amazing work—I can’t wait to hear it in person,” Robertson added. “This is certainly the highest-profile setting my music has ever had.”

Robertson earned his bachelor of music degree in music education from Furman University, his master’s of music in choral conducting from UNC-Greensboro and his doctorate in choral conducting and music education from Florida State in Tallahassee.
