STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Several hundred Tarleton State University volunteers, mostly students, are expected to roll up their sleeves and say thanks to the Stephenville community by performing all sorts of odd jobs on Saturday, April 6.

It’s all part of the 15th annual Tarleton Round-Up, a day of service when volunteers go into the community to assist the elderly, homebound individuals or others who simply need a hand with common household chores and yard work.

Coordinated by Student Leadership Programs in cooperation with the city of Stephenville, Tarleton Round-Up hopes to attract more than 800 volunteers for the upcoming day of service, said student Round-Up coordinator Lorie Holman. “Round-Up provides an outlet for Tarleton students, faculty and staff to engage in volunteer services and assist city residents with yard work and other household tasks,” she said. “I think this is an awesome way for Tarleton to give back to the Stephenville community, and we’re very excited to make this year’s Round-Up as successful as last year’s event.”

Organizers hope to work at 150 sites, said co-coordinator Julie Wilkes. “I’m very excited to be planning one of Tarleton’s biggest community outreach events. It is so rewarding to see how much we can help individuals and Stephenville as a whole, and it’s very important to the Tarleton family to give back to Stephenville and its residents.”

Last year, Tarleton Round-Up attracted 400 volunteers who completed 50 worksites.

Some of the services that will be provided include trimming shrubs, raking leaves, hauling branches, cleaning gutters and other general yard cleanup, as well as indoor cleaning, window washing, painting and basic maintenance chores.
