STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Hundreds of high school students bound for college will soon have the opportunity to experience the Tarleton State University campus and catch their first glimpse of what it means to “Bleed Purple” as the Welcome Center and Office of School Relations plans its spring Texan Tour.
Slated for Saturday, April 6, the Welcome Center and Office of School Relations along with Tarleton’s Texan Reps and countless students, faculty and staff will roll out the red carpet to extend a warm welcome to the campus visitors.
Beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m., Texan Tour promises a full day of events allowing campus visitors the chance to get to know Tarleton first-hand through conversations with current students and sessions with representatives from financial aid, various academic departments, undergraduate admissions, scholarships and residential living and learning.
“Texan Tour gives attendees a chance to learn more about Tarleton and the many unique opportunities available to them,” said Laurie Gaiser, director of the Welcome Center and School Relations. “Plus, with the help of our Texan Reps, the day becomes a situation where students recruit students, which makes visitors more comfortable.”
“Being a Texan Rep is an honor and so much fun,” said junior nursing major Shelbie Kirk. “We get to share our love for this wonderful university and show others exactly what it means to be a part of the Tarleton family.”
Students and their family members are able to pre-register online for Texan Tour by visiting www.tarleton.edu/welcome/texantour.html.
After the campus tours, an Information Fair will feature representatives from many of the 100-plus student organizations will be available to answer questions and provide information on groups such as the University Band program, spirit organizations, religious groups, fraternities and sororities, academic societies and professional organizations. The fair also includes faculty and staff who will be on hand to discuss student support departments, including recreational sports, career services, transition and family relations, library and academic advising services.
Current Tarleton students, known as Texan Reps, will guide groups on campus tours and are available to answer questions from a student’s perspective throughout the day.
“We have Reps from every academic college and every part of the state,” said Gaiser. “Their help and input make Texan Tour what it is today. Texan Tour not only gives high school seniors and their families the opportunity to visit Tarleton, but it’s also a great time for transfer students to finalize their next educational step. High school juniors can also use this time to begin their college search.”
