STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Two Tarleton graduates from the College of Education were recently named recipients of the Quest for Quality Teacher Preparation Awards.

Stephanie Jones and Randall Sugg were among 39 exceptional teacher candidates chosen from across Texas for the awards presented by the Center for Research, Evaluation and Advancement of Teacher Education (CREATE) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Forty-eight applications were submitted from 15 different universities with nominees providing narratives for review by a panel of six state and national reviewers who met to determine award recipients.

Nominees were judged on the depth of their subject area content and knowledge of instructional strategies, excellence in planning and instructional delivery in several areas, and their ability to create and maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment.

Jones, a certified 4th-8th grade mathematics teacher, graduated as a member of the class of 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. Upon graduation, she obtained a position with Jayton-Girard ISD serving in multiple teaching assignments.

Sugg, who is also a 2012 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies along with a 4th-8th grade mathematics certification, is currently seeking employment.

The Quest for Quality initiative, based in The Woodlands, Texas, is designed to highlight exceptional quality in university-based teacher preparation in Texas. The CREATE and THECB collaborate on the program that is funded through a grant from the Sid W. Richardson Foundation to the College for All Texans Foundation.

The Quest for Quality Teacher Preparation awards will be given annually to exceptional teacher candidates. For more information, visit www.createtx.org. For more information about the educator preparation program at Tarleton, visit www.tarleton.edu/eps/.
