STEPHENVILLE, Texas —The 2012 State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) at Tarleton raised $15,750, the largest amount ever and 50 percent more than its $10,000 goal.

The SECC is a statewide annual giving campaign for state employees. This year, Tarleton gave its own name—Pass the Hat—to the fundraising drive.

“We felt this name best symbolized Tarleton’s western heritage and spirit of helping those in need,” said Dr. R. Michael Haynes, executive director of Institutional Research and chairman of the Pass the Hat committee.

In the past three years, there has been a 385 percent increase in dollars donated to the SECC by Tarleton faculty and staff ($3,255 to $15,780) and a 470 percent increase in participation (24 individuals to 137).

“Increases of this nature are phenomenal and due to the work of Pass the Hat volunteers and the altruistic nature of Tarleton’s faculty and staff,” Haynes said. “It has truly been a rewarding experience to serve on this committee the past three years.”

On Nov. 15, Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio presented trophies to the three departments with the highest per capita rate of giving to Pass the Hat. They were: Office of Physical Facilities, Joe Standridge, first; Office of the Dean, College of Education, Dr. Jill Burk, second; and Office of the Dean, College of Business Administration, Dr. Adolfo Benavides, third.

Also, in a drawing from all Pass the Hat participants, Kayla Kelly won two tickets for a tour of Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
