STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton associate professor Dr. Karol Blaylock was recently installed as national president of Phi Upsilon Omicron, an honor society in family and consumer sciences.
Blaylock was installed for a two-year term Oct. 2 during the society’s biennium conclave, held in Lexington, Ky.
During the conclave, Operation Military Kid received 150 stuffed backpacks that were filled with donated items from many of the chapters. Personal notes were also written that evening for each child. The bags were handed out the next day to the children of Kentucky soldiers being deployed that day to a war zone.
The honor society has more than 53,000 collegiate members at 53 chapters across the contiguous United States and Hawaii. Annually, the collegiate chapters complete professional projects benefiting deserving members of their communities.
Additionally, Phi Upsilon Omicron bestows more than $65,000 in scholarships, fellowships and other awards each year to undergraduate and graduate members.
Blaylock joined the faculty of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Department of Agricultural and Consumer Sciences in 2005.
