STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s athletics communications department recently earned national recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)for three of its publications, including “Best in the Nation” honors for the 2011-2012 men’s basketball media guide.

The basketball media guide took top honors among all NCAA schools for the second-straight year and also received the award for “Best Cover.”

“Our athletics communications department has done an outstanding job, and their hard work has been shown through these awards,” said Tarleton athletic director Lonn Reisman. “Ross (Bagienski) and Nathan (Bural) have done an outstanding job in producing high-quality media guides, which are very important in recruiting and bring us national exposure. I would say that our athletics communications department is among the best in the NCAA.”

The 2011 TexAnn volleyball media guide earned 2nd place in the nation, marking the third-straight year the publication was honored by CoSIDA and tying the best finish in school history (2009).

Also receiving honors was the 2012 TexAnn softball media guide, which snapped a seven-year drought by claiming 3rd place in the nation. This is just the second year Tarleton’s softball media guide was recognized by CoSIDA.

“Much like our athletics programs at Tarleton, our athletics communications department is first class,” said Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio. “Congratulations to Ross and Nathan on this notable distinction.”

Bagienski, Tarleton’s director of athletics communications, is in his second year at the university and first as the director. Bural, the assistant director of athletics communications, is in his first year on the Tarleton staff after graduating in December 2010.

Assisting in the production of the media guides were student workers Tom Frazier, Taylor Holt and Clifford Jones.

CoSIDA is a national organization comprised of the sports public relations, communications and information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada.
