STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Dr. Mike Leese, former Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students and alumnus of Tarleton State University, recently returned to campus and has been appointed executive director of student life development effective July 1.

Leese joins the staff of Tarleton’s Division of Student Life after serving 19 years with Southwestern University in Gerogetown, Texas, most recently as associate vice president and dean of students. While at Southwestern, Leese also served as associate vice president of student life, associate dean of students and director of residence life.

With 43 years experience in higher education, including a four-year stint at Texas A&M University as coordinator of Greek Affairs and student activities judicial affairs officer, Leese returns to Tarleton where he hopes to become a significant team member within the Division of Student Life.

“I appreciate vice president Rusty Jergins making this possible and I look forward to bringing my career to a close at Tarleton. But before I do that, I hope to help make a difference in the lives of Tarleton students,” said Leese. “I had the opportunity to meet with student leaders on June 1, and not only was I more than impressed with their business professional dress, especially in the summer time, but they had great questions and expectations. I look forward to working with the Student Government Association again after so many years, and I hope that I can help the officers and members be successful with their goals and objectives.”

Leese earned his Ed.D. in higher education administration from Texas A&M, and both a master’s degree in public administration and bachelor’s degree in political science from Tarleton. In addition to his administrative roles, Leese also taught for six years including courses in social psychology, political science and student leadership.

His experience in higher ed also includes serving as dean of students, assistant to the president for development, director of development and alumni affairs, dean of men and director of financial aid—from 1969 to 1989, at Tarleton. In 1995, Leese was presented the Distinguished Faculty / Staff Award from the Tarleton Alumni Association.

“I am confident that Dr. Leese will provide outstanding leadership and service in this new role. I know everyone in the Tarleton community will join me in welcoming him to campus,” said Jergins, vice president of student life.
