STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The greater Tarleton family will gather Tuesday, May 1, to celebrate the life of the late Col. Will L. Tate, an extraordinary man, alumnus and dedicated supporter of the university who passed away March 14 at the age of 96.

The public is invited to the event along with Tarleton’s students, faculty and staff at 4 p.m. inside the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

“I hope you will join me as we celebrate the life of a special man who truly embodied the spirit of Tarleton. Col. Will Tate is sorely missed, but his legacy will not be forgotten,” said university President F. Dominic Dottavio.

Among those taking part will be members of Tarleton’s ROTC Texan Battalion, the University Chamber Choir, and some of his dearest friends.

A 1935 graduate of John Tarleton Agricultural College, Col. Tate was always loyal to Tarleton and was known for his strong leadership, hard work and dedication—all of which are reflected in his more than 70 years of service to the university.

Col. Tate told the story of how he was once asked, is there something legal that he would make illegal. “Frowns,” he said. In keeping with his desire to make “frowns” illegal, the university will celebrate his life.

“It will be a time of joining together to once again be inspired by a person who was truly an uplifting spirit,” said Dottavio.

Visitors to the Tarleton campus may park in lot P30, located at the corner of Lillian and Washington streets at the south entrance to campus. To view a map of the Tarleton campus, please visit www.tarleton.edu/campus.
