STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton’s Texas Social Media Research Institute is launching an academic journal aimed at social media research. The Journal of Social Media in Society will be a blind, peer-reviewed semi-annual journal devoted to scholarship and commentary on social media and its impact on society.
The journal is an open source electronic journal meant to advance the study of social media with current literature based on theory, research and practice from all methodological frameworks. It will showcase original research and book reviews.
“We thought it was time create a journal focused on social media in various contexts, including business, education, and nonprofit organizations,” said the research institute’s director Jennifer Edwards.
The board members and interns at the Texas Social Media Research Institute spent this semester laying the groundwork for the journal’s launch later this year.
“As an undergraduate student is has been a great pleasure to be able to work on this journal with TSMRI,” said editorial intern Maylee Friemel, a senior from Kemp, Texas.
The Journal of Social Media in Society is now accepting submissions for its first issue. Submissions can be sent to texassocialmediareasearch@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is June 6, 2012, and the first issue is expected to be published this summer.
