STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton’s Department of Fine Arts will present Lauren and Mark Puckett in a piano recital on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. The concert will kick off the university’s 9th annual Piano Festival.

The Pucketts have performed two-piano and four-hand programs together for more than a decade, and currently serve on the faculty of Hardin-Simmons University’s music department. Tickets for the recital are $10 and all seats are general admission. A reception and the opportunity to meet the artists will be held in the theater lobby immediately after the recital.

The concert includes the Myra Hess arrangement of Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by J. S. Bach, Sonata in D Major for Two Pianos, K. 448 by W. A. Mozart, Mamére l’Oye by Maurice Ravel, Danses Andalouses by Manuel Infante, Dolly Suite, Op. 56 by Gabriel Fauré, and Variations on a Theme by Paganini for Two Pianos by Witold Lutoslawski.

This year’s Piano Festival will be Oct. 5-6 in the Fine Arts Center theater and includes lessons on Saturday by the two guest artists who will work with visiting high school students and piano majors at Tarleton. Tarleton’s Dr. Leslie Spotz, associate professor of piano, will also hold clinics for the students during the festival.

The Pucketts’ performances have taken the couple to various places in the United States and to Germany. In conjunction with Chopin Tour 2005, they were invited to perform Variations in D Major, a rarely heard work by Frédéric Chopin, in Dresden, Germany. The Pucketts have also performed and lectured together at the Texas Music Teachers Association state convention and have recorded a CD of two-piano and four-hand repertoire by Dmitri Shostakovich, Darius Milhaud, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel and Witold Lutoslawski.

Mark Puckett received his bachelor of music degree at Oklahoma City University and completed his master’s and doctoral degrees in piano at the University of Kansas.

Lauren Puckett is a graduate of The Eastman School of Music where she received a degree in piano performance, and Cleveland State University where she studied with pianist, Andrius Kuprevicius and harpsichordist, Janina Kuzma.
