Tarleton bass fishing duo makes a comeback at fishing championship

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS—Tarleton State University bass fishing club members John Anderson and Tanner Morgan recently finished third at the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Regional Championships. The three-day tournament was held Nov. 14-16 at Sibley Lake, located outside of Natchitoches, La.

Anderson and Morgan placed behind Texas A&M University and Texas State University with 15 fish, winning $5,500 for Tarleton and $5,500 for the bass club.

The team started out in 15th place after day one. However, the team rebounded on the second day when they posted the heaviest weight of 10 pounds and 6 ounces. This secured them a place in the final round.

Unfortunately, strong winds on the third day forced the duo out of many promising spots and into different locations with less wind.

This was Anderson and Morgan’s fifth tournament to enter this year and their third tournament to be in the top 10.

They will now advance to the national tournament scheduled for April 10-12, 2010 in Knoxville, Tenn. The winning team for the national tournament will receive $50,000 for their college and $50,000 for their bass fishing club.

Advisers for the team are Allan Morgan and Dr. Barry Lambert, both of whom are also avid fisherman.
