Sounds of the season featured in first Wind Ensemble concert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 23, 2009

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS—Music inspired by the fall season will take center stage.

Tarleton State University’s Wind Ensemble will present its first concert of the year titled “October,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium.

The program includes Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture,” Gounod’s “Funeral March of a Marionette,” Whitacre’s “October,” Moussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and Sousa’s “The Liberty Bell,” among others.

The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Greg Ball, interim director of bands, who also specializes in woodwinds and jazz studies at Tarleton.

“Join the band for an evening of masterworks connected with the autumnal month of October,” Ball said. “Falling leaves, cooler weather, marches at football games, and of course, Halloween — this music all somehow reflects the season.”

Admission is $5 for the public. Tarleton faculty, staff and students with Texan ID are admitted free. For more information, call (254) 968-9634.
