Mr. Tom Kerr
Recruiting Operations Officer
Mr. Tommy G. Kerr was commissioned as a Military Police Officer in 1997 through the Sam Houston State University ROTC program, Huntsville, Texas where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Prior to attending the Senior ROTC program, Mr. Kerr served on Active Duty as a Military Policeman in Fort Clayton, Panama, followed by service in the US Army Reserve as a Military Policeman with Active Duty deployments to Guatemala, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, and Fort Polk. After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Mr. Kerr served as a Gold Bar Recruiter working with MS1 and MS2 cadets seeking service in the US Army. Mr. Kerr then attended the Military Police Officer Basic Course in 1997, followed by assignment as a Military Police Platoon Leader with the 549th Military Police Company in Fort Clayton, Panama. As the US presence in Panama drew down, his unit was relocated to Fort Stewart, Georgia where he continued to serve as the 549th Military Police Company Executive Officer. During this time, he was selected to serve in Eagle Base, Bosnia-Herzegovina as the 3rd Infantry Division Forward Anti-terrorism-Force Protection Officer. Mr. Kerr then attended the Military Police Captain’s Career Course and US Army Combat Arms and Service Staff School, followed by assignment to Darmstadt, Germany where he served as the 233rd Base Support Battalion Provost Marshal. Mr. Kerr was then selected to serve as the 1st Military Police Company Commander, 1st Infantry Division in Wurzburg, Germany where he deployed his company to Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo followed by deployment to Tikrit, Iraq. During his two plus years in command, Mr. Kerr’s Military Police Company was recognized twice as the Best MP Company in Europe. Following assignment as a Company Commander, Mr. Kerr was transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas where he first served as the Deputy Operations Officer for the Joint Task Force North Joint Operations Coordination Center and later as the Joint Task Force North Headquarters Commandant and Anti-terrorism/Force Protection Officer. Following this assignment, Mr. Kerr was assigned to his functional area as a Foreign Area Officer-Latin America where he served for two years as a Foreign Area Officer with duties in El Salvador. While in El Salvador, Mr. Kerr completed the El Salvadoran Command and General Staff College Course (Escuela de Mando y Estado Mayor General), followed by short duties in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Following his functional area assignment, Mr. Kerr returned to the Military Police Corps and was transferred to US Army North, Fort Sam Houston, Texas where he served the Chief of Operations for the US Army North Provost Marshal’s Office. While serving at US Army North, Mr. Kerr deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan where he served with the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 as Chief of Rehabilitation Operations. During this tour, Mr. Kerr also completed the US Army Command and General Staff College. Following his tour in Afghanistan, Mr. Kerr was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas where is served as the Chief of Operation for the Garrison’s Directorate of Emergency Services. Mr. Kerr retired honorably and proudly on 31 JUL 2013 after 20+ years of dedication and service to the US Army and the United States of America. Currently, Mr. Kerr serves as the Tarleton State University’s Recruiting Operations Officer, in Stephenville, Texas.
Mr. Kerr holds a BA from Sam Houston State University and a MA from Webster University. Mr. Kerr hails from Livingston, Texas and is married to the former Idira Jordan of San Vicente, Panama, and they have one daughter, Valerie and one son Brandon.
