Research scientists constantly look for more effective, safer medications.  Sometimes a drug that is effective in treating one condition increases the risk from another condition. 

Dr. Bert Little uses a data warehouse and statistical analysis to address the risk posed by cardiovascular medicines.

Funding

For many students, learning mathematics and science is like learning a foreign language where some words have special meanings and aren’t used like they are in regular conversation.

In 2010, Dr. Pam Littleton received $694,150 from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to establish the Cubic Academy.  Her project team of mathematics, agricultural science, environmental engineering and engineering technology faculty is finding ways to infuse mathematics and science concepts and vocabulary into mathematics courses for pre-service teachers.  The project goal is to develop teachers who can demystify mathematics for their students.

Scholarship

Dr. David Kattes, professor of Environmental and Agricultural Management, is the 2010 recipient of Tarleton’s Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award for his research in the fields of tick and filth fly management, parasitoids of black widow spiders, establishment of native grasses and management of Bermuda grass.
