About Us

The TSU Plowboys are an all male spirit group who help promote Tarleton athletics and spread the Tarleton spirit! It is regarded as one of the more elite organizations on the Tarleton Campus.

Upon joining the Texas A&M University System in 1917, The Tarleton Athletic Teams became known as the "Junior Aggies". In 1924 Coach W.J. Wisdom became disenchanted with the name and held a contest to select a new mascot. The winner would receive $5 and Wisdom would be the sole judge. While walking across campus one day, the name "Plowboys" popped into his head. He adopted the mascot and kept the $5.

In 1984, Dr. Barry B. Thompson and a select group of interested students established a spirit organization and readopted the name Plowboys. The current Plowboys attend most all athletic events along with other campus and community activities. They are familiar to the public because of their purple and white shirts, cowboy hats, and chaps. At athletic events they bring life to the crowd with spirit, energy, and, what they may best be known for, their own special brand of cheers and chants. In addition to this support, they are known for their community service and the numerous social events they sponsor throughout the year.
