FIND JOURNAL ARTICLES ONLINE

A journal is a collection of articles written by experts on a common topic. Academic or scholarly journals feature research articles written by scholars. Peer-reviewed journals contain articles reviewed and approved by a group of experts.

SEARCH JOURNALS by CATEGORY (SUBJECT) or TITLE.

FIND DATABASE ARTICLES

A database is an online collection of articles, reviews, etc. from many different periodicals (magazines, newspapers and journals) organized by title, date, subject, author, keywords, and more.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON LITERATURE AND LANGUAGES:

Academic Search Complete  Thousands of articles on diverse topics from journals in many different disciplines. 

AH Search - The Online Arts and Humanities Citation Index fully covers 1,144 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, and indexes individually selected, relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals.

Digital Dissertations - Doctoral dissertations and master's theses from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities.

JSTOR  is a collection of " archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work."

Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts  Covers phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics and other aspects of linguistics.

MLA (Modern Language Association of America)- Critical scholarship on literature, language, linguistics and folklore (1963 -today).

Project Muse  The full text of over 100 scholarly journals in language and linguistics, literature, Medieval and Renaissance studies, African-American studies, book history and print culture, and much more (see database for a complete list).

SPECIFIC AUTHORS AND LITERARY WORKS

Gale Literary Index -Search by title or author name, birth date, death date, etc. Includes over 140,000 authors and 180,000 titles.  **Find the print versions of literary criticism in Reference section (1st floor).**

Gale Literary Database -A collection of literature databases: Contemporary Authors (CA), Contemporary Literary Criticism Select (CLC Select), and Dictionary of Literary Biography (DLB)

Literature Resource Center.  Information on authors from all time periods. Search by title, keyword, author type, literary-historical timeline or advanced options.

ProQuest Learning: Literature Search by authors, criticism, reference, multimedia and literary works.

Twayne's Authors Series  View full text discussions of an author's works and a chronology of the author's life, or customize a search by genre, gender, nationality, and time period.

CITING SOURCES

Software or websites that format  citations are not always correct.  Be sure to check your results against a reliable source like a style manual (copies at main level Information Desk).
