Tarleton State University Libraries Catalog - Database of all items owned by Tarleton Libraries. Look here for books, government reports, journal titles, videos, CDs, etc. Keyword searching is available.
Library of Texas - Search for Books and Articles from libraries located in Texas. The Library of Texas lets you pick the library collections you search, helping you locate items near you.
WorldCat - (FirstSearch Core) Books and other materials in libraries worldwide. WorldCat contains more than 32 million records describing items owned by libraries around the world. If Tarleton does not own these items, they can be requested through Inter-Library Loan.
Databases and Journal articles
Academic Search Complete - indexes and abstracts for over 10,900 publications in nearly all academic areas of study. Provides full text coverage, full-page images, and color embedded images for more than 6,100 journals. Examples of education-related journals are American School and University, High School Journal, Higher Education, and Multimedia Schools.
Cabells Publishing Directory - helps professors, graduate students and researchers publish their manuscripts,this database strives to maintain current information on the addresses, phone, e-mail and websites for a large number of journals. It also provides information on publication guidelines and review information. There are approximately 470 journals listed in the Educational Curriculum & Methods directory.
Children's Literature Comprehensive - includes more than 315,000 full-text reviews of children's books from 37 journals; as well as information on awards and honors received, Best Book and state reading list inclusion, and data from reading measurement programs.
Dissertations & Theses: Full Text - includes 2.4 million bibliographic citations for materials ranging from the first U.S. dissertation, accepted in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Citations for dissertations published from July 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. The full text of more than one million of these titles, including most of those added since 1997, is available for download in PDF format. More than 60,000 new full text dissertations and theses are added to the database each year through publishing partnerships with 700 leading academic institutions worldwide and collaborative retrospective digitization of dissertations through UMI's Digital Archiving and Access Program.
Education Research Complete - covers scholarly research and information relating to all levels of education from early childhood to higher education. Topics covered include all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, testing, and curriculum instruction, as well as administration, policy, funding, and related social issues. It provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,870 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,060 journals, and includes full text for more than 133 books and monographs, and for numerous education-related conference papers.
Electronic Collections Online -- Includes bibliographic information and full-text articles from over 7,000 scholarly journals from 1995 to the present.
ERIC (EBSCO) or ERIC (OCLC) or ERIC (CSA) - the U.S. Department of Education’s Eeducational Rresource Information Center database (1966-current) - Offered through EBSCO, OCLC, and CSA, this database contains over 1,200,000 citations and many full-text articles from journal and research literature (some otherwise unpublished) in the education field. ERIC documents are also available free and full-text through ERIC Education Resources Information Center. The latter supplements the ERIC microfiche collection held by the University Libraries.
GreenFILE - indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. It offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, it includes content on green building, pollution, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.
JSTOR - offers a high-quality, interdisciplinary archive to support scholarship and teaching. It includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work. The entire database is full-text searchable, offers search term highlighting, includes high-quality images, and is interlinked by millions of citations and references. The most recently published issues (past 3-5 years) are not available; however, users can search this material and link to the publisher's site or other online source for access.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe - provides full-text access to over 6,000 news, business, and legal publications, using a variety of flexible search options. Examples of education-related legal materials are legal news and reviews, as well as federal and state cases, codes, and law.
MasterFILE Premier -- provides full-text for nearly 1,950 general reference publications with full-text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering education, multicultural issues and much more, the database also includes full text for nearly 500 reference books, nearly 100,000 biographies, over 100,000 primary source documents, and an image collection of 276,000 photos, maps and flags.
Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) - provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. The MMY series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. All MMY entries contain descriptive information (e.g., test purpose, publisher, pricing) and edited review(s) written by leading content area experts, allowing users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing. MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.
Professional Development Collection - offers a specialized collection designed for professional educators. It includes abstracts and index coverage for nearly 530 journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles, and full text coverage of nearly 440 journals. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports. The collection offers information on many topics such as pedagogical theory and practice, and children's development. Examples of education-related journals are Changing English: Studies in Reading & Culture, Assessment in Education: Principles, Policy & Practice, and Comparative Education.
Project MUSE - provides full-text access to over 400 peer-reviewed humanities and social sciences journals from non-profit scholarly publishers, including university presses and societies. Complete, permanent journal content that does not move or disappear is available, including charts, graphs, and images
PsycINFO – the American Psychological Association’s (APA) database for abstracts of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, is the largest resource devoted to peer-reviewed literature in behavioral science, mental health, education, psychiatry, sociology, linguistics, and other fields. It contains over 2.5 million citations and summaries dating as far back as the early 1800s, and includes international material selected from more than 2,200 periodicals in more than 27 languages.
Psychology Journals – has excellent information from professional journals on educational psychology and testing.
Readers' Guide Retrospective - makes nearly a century (1890-1982) of Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature content available, with nearly 3 million citations from some 375 leading U.S. magazines, representing diverse subjects. The database includes both updated and the original subject headings. Entries link to page images from original Readers’ Guide volumes, showing users the original “see” and “see also” references, plus the complete hierarchy of subject headings and subheadings.
SciVerse - provides access to research in the sciences and covers a wide range of disciplines pertinent to education research: chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, computer science, earth sciences, social sciences, biological sciences, and more, with over 2,600 journal titles available in full-text. Examples of education-related journals are Journal of School Psychology, and Teaching and Teacher Education.
SocINDEX -- contains full text for over 700 journals dating back to 1908, as well as for more than 780 books and monographs, and over 9,000 conference papers. The database features more than 1.9 million records with subject headings from a 19,600+ term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and lexicographers.
Texas Magazines and Documents – Indexes Texas-specific journals on business, education, history, and government, with magazines of general interest also included, from 2000 to the present. Education-related titles include TACT Quarterly eBulletin, Teacher Education and Practice, and Texas Education Today.
Wiley Online Library – contains approximately 3 million full-text articles from 1,400 scientific and scholarly sources, which includes education journals that primarily cover higher education. It also includes more than 6,000 online books, references works and databases.
