Texan Alternative Spring Break 2010
Interested in making an impact by serving others during your Spring Break? Texan Alternative Spring Break has a variety of options available to students that are interested in volunteering both locally and abroad.
How to sign-up?
Contact the Center for Student Engagement located in the Thompson Student Center #201 by email leadership@tarleton.edu or call 254.968.9490. Please state the trip or activity that you plan to participate in. NOTE: Some trips/activities may require additional information or contacting the sponsoring organization.
- Kids Across Cultures
"For a child to have no clean water, not enough food, no educational opportunities or medical care, is simply not acceptable. Like you, we are parents, educators, professionals, students, laborers and the like, who desire to look beyond ourselves and make a difference in this world."

- Mission De Candelilla- Medical Mission Trip
Date: March 17-21st
Price: $350 per person, due 30 days prior to registration. Passport also needed.
Location: Leaving from Fredericksburg, TX, traveling to Boquillas, Las Norias and Jaboncillos-Mexico
Accommodations: Participants will be camping or sleeping in clinic/church. No heating or a/c provided; please pack appropriately.
Meals: Authentic Mexican food provided by families of the village.
Transportation: Must have transportation to Fredericksburg, TX (transportation maybe available upon request).
Requirements: No smoking, drinking and modest dress is required. No firearms or ammo. In addition to medical services, this is a Christian ministry and all villagers are invited to evening services. Participants must possess an attitude of service and must be sensitive to local customs and religious beliefs of others.
- Hispanic Ministries-United Methodist Church- Brownwood District-Volunteers in Mission
Date: March 13-20th
Price: Approximately $500. Also need passport.
Location: Matamoros Mexico- Juntos Servimos
Project: Service to disabled and diabetes patients; physical therapy, daily living care, and light construction.
Accommodations: Best Western- double occupancy
Meals: Most meals provided, some will need to be purchased
Transportation: Church Van
Requirements: Worship services, devotional times, etc. Participants would not use alcohol or tobacco during the duration of the trip.
- Beach Reach
Date: Friday March 12th-Saturday March 20th
Price: $350 per person
Location: South Padre Island, TX
Project: Make pancakes and provide rides for Spring Breakers; also clean trash from beach.
Sponsoring Group: Baptist Student Ministries (BSM)
Accommodations: Sleeping bags and cots and local church
Meals: Travel meals are not provided but all other meals are included in costs.
Transportation: Vans
Requirements: Must attend training sessions offered by BSM. Worship events will be offered as part of trip.
- Habitat for Humanity-Collegiate Challenge
Date: March 14-21st

- Cross Timbers-Family Services
Date: March 16-20th
Price: N/A
Location: Stephenville, TX
Project: Help staff and volunteers plan, coordinate and market local Take Back the Night and Clothesline Project event for those that have been victims of violent crimes. Click on link for more info on this event. In addition, Cross Timbers Family Services has multiple volunteer opportunities during the week and beyond.
