Today, you have an opportunity to support a community winner and renew your membership in the Partners for Enrichment Society!

A short block from the heart of historical Granbury is a vital community hub: the Tarleton State University Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center. From its simple beginnings as a university site in 1996 with a few graduate classes and the occasional art exhibit, a vision of something much more began to take shape.  Under the direction of dedicated staff members events for the enjoyment and benefit of the community began to bloom until currently so many events can be experienced that a person struggles to decide in which event to participate!  The Center teems with continuous activity.

Do you want a visual feast? Then view the monthly art exhibit featuring local and national artists or delight in the visual display of the national juried art show at the Rio Brazos Art Exhibition held every October.

Do you want to hear delightful music? Then choose a recital featuring classical music performed by local prodigies or internationally known artists or bring a picnic for Jazz on the Lawn, or dance to the songs of the Big Band Era featuring the Langdon Center Big Band.

Do you want to taste fine wines? Then sign up and attend regular wine tasting classes taught by a certified sommelier.

Do you want to savor exquisite flavors at a culinary feast? Then don’t miss learning cooking tips and techniques from nationally known chefs who prepare unforgettable meals for attendees.

Do you want to stimulate your mind at literary events? Then attend the yearly Writing Down the Brazos, a regional conference on writing and publishing or Langdon Weekend, an annual state-wide conference featuring writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry as well as movie directors and visual artists.

Do you want to learn computer skills or how to cane a chair, or how to belly dance?  Then attend community education classes.

And the list could go on and on.

But besides creating these wonderful events for the enjoyment of so many individuals, Tarleton’s  Langdon Center has also provided the rich soil for new quality fine art organizations  to put down roots.  It is the rehearsal home of the Granbury Civic Chorus that performs at yearly sold out concerts.  It has served as the catalyst for the Langdon Center Big Band and the Paluxy Winds which provide superior programs for the community.  All of these organizations started with the assistance of Tarleton’s Langdon Center and receive its on-going support.

Margaret Meade wrote, ““The city as a center where, any day in any year, there may be a fresh encounter with a new talent, a keen mind or a gifted specialist-this is essential to the life of a country. To play this role in our lives a city must have a soul-a university, a great art or music school, a cathedral or a great mosque or temple, a great laboratory or scientific center, as well as the libraries and museums and galleries that bring past and present together. ….. a place where groups of women and men are seeking and developing the highest things they know.”

Yes, indeed!  Granbury is blessed with a soul and a place to develop fine minds…. the Tarleton State University Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Education Center!  By offering extensive rewarding experiences, the Langdon Center helps Granbury stand out as a unique small town community.

Please join us in saying, YES to the quality programming and experiences that the Langdon Center provides for all of us by giving generously to help maintain all of its programs.  Support a community winner!!

Sincerely,
