Granbury, TX - Each month Tarleton’s Langdon Center presents a quality art exhibition for the community. July 2010’s exhibit is no exception. In fact, it is exceptional.
Celebrate the Explosion of Art: A Group Showing by Pam Fritz, Diana Littlejohn, Lynda Robinson and Jackie Stengle features four Granbury artists with passions for color and talents for bringing their canvases to life.
The exhibition runs through Friday, July 30 at the Center’s A.P. Gordon House at 308 East Pearl Street in Granbury. The show concludes with the monthly art event “Last Friday Gallery Night” which includes galleries and shops throughout the historic district.
These artists come from backgrounds that the word “various” doesn’t begin to describe: one from deep in genteel Georgia, another from the practical Midwest, one from dusty southwest Texas and the other from across the Atlantic in England.
Yet these artists have found their way to Granbury and to the Lake Granbury Art Association. And it is art and the need to express themselves through creative design and intensive color that brings them together to “Celebrate the Explosion of Color.”
Pam Fritz, Diana Littlejohn, Lynda Robinson and Jackie Stengle study and paint together each Friday. They also travel to workshops throughout the country to continue learning, experimenting and creating.
The figure works in this show celebrates women and their ability to work together for a cause. Just like the four artists, these women reflect diversity in backgrounds, life journeys and desires.
Pam Fritz began her artistic adventure ten years ago with the encouragement and instruction from friend and fellow artist Yvonne Sailers. Watercolor was her initial medium of choice until last year when she found that acrylic paints could provide the same transparency.
“The camaraderie of other artists I’ve met along the way has made the learning process more special,” states Fritz. “There has been much to learn from each of them.”
Dr. Diana Littlejohn was born in England. She began her formal art training at the University of Texas at Arlington. Now retired from the public schools, Diana has returned to her love of art and spends her time painting and organizing art workshops for the Lake Granbury Art Association (LGAA).
Five years ago Lynda Robinson found classes and started her art adventure with the great Cheng Kee Chee. She studied four years with him and received the courage to keep painting and to do it often. Other teachers with whom she has studied are Steve Quiller, Robert Buridge, Pat Dews, Judy Betts, Betsy Dillard Strout, and Betty Carr
Robinson’s joy for art is simply stated. “Painting for me is like a child on Christmas morning all excited to see what’s going to happen.”
Jackie Stengle is a well respected artist in Granbury and throughout Texas. Her work is featured in private and public collections as well as being part of numerous juried art shows receiving accolades from jurors and viewers.
She says, “Color and form excite me, art awakens me in the middle of the night and I wonder why I’ve been sleeping when I could have been painting. I love to paint organic abstracts, flowers and people.”
“Celebrate the Explosion of Color” exhibit is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to join the artists for a reception on Friday, July 30 from 5pm to 9pm in the historic A.P. Gordon House at 308 E. Pearl Street in Granbury.
