Becoming a JAMP Student

What must I do to apply to the program?

  1. Enroll at a participating undergraduate institution the first fall semester following graduation from high school or a home-school program.
  2. Complete 27 semester hours of undergraduate credit by the end of the spring semester (no more than 3 hours of AP credit can be counted toward this requirement).
  3. Submit a completed copy of your undergraduate school's admission application, including your high school transcript.
  4. Earn an SAT or ACT score not less than the mean for the state of Texas, with no section on either the SAT or ACT below the mean attained in the state.
  5. Provide two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the JAMP Faculty Director at your institution.
  6. Submit an application to the JAMP Program by September 30 of your sophomore year.
  7. Provide documentation to qualify as an economically disadvantaged Texas resident applicant.

What must I do if I am accepted to JAMP?

  1. Sign an agreement with the JAMP Council which specifies the requirements of the program.
  2. Attend the undergraduate program where you were admitted.
  3. Maintain a minimum cumulative and science GPA of 3.25 in all medical school prerequisite science courses taken at your home university.
  4. Take courses that lead to a degree and graduate in four years.
  5. Take the MCAT in the spring of your junior year.
  6. Complete two summer internships at one or more medical schools, beginning after your sophomore year.
  7. Meet with your university JAMP Faculty Director at least once per month.
  8. Apply for admission to a participating medical school before the beginning of your senior year.
  9. Satisfy both academic and nonacademic admission requirements of the medical schools, including an interview with the Admissions Committee.

Tarleton State University JAMP PROGRAM

Tarleton State University has the option of placing up to two qualifying students per year into this program

To be eligible a student must:

  • Apply for admission to Tarleton State University.
  • Take the SAT or ACT and earn a score not less than the mean for the state of Texas.
  • Complete and submit the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) and be economically disadvantaged.
  • Register for and complete 27 hours of undergraduate credit during the freshman year with a minimum 3.25 GPA (no more than 3 hours AP credit).
  • Complete the online JAMP application by October 1 of the sophomore year.
