Mission Statement & Purpose
International students make a world of difference to Tarleton State University and to the Stephenville community. As the campus community brings the following university strategic goal to fruition, a heightened sense of cultural awareness will occur.
Continue enrollment growth, expand the faculty and staff, and enrich the student experience by increasing access and participation, expanding cultural competence and global awareness through the curriculum, and fostering a learning environment that values diversity.
One of the University's core values states: We pursue campus diversity and inclusion. Ideas and experiences from diverse ethnicities, cultures, and nations strengthen Tarleton. Through the valuing of global, environmental, and cultural awareness, the university populace acknowledges its role as world citizens.
This Fall 2013 we anticipate that international students from 26 countries will attend Tarleton. Including students from: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Kuwait, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Venezuela and Vietnam. Their presence and integration into the academic community make them essential to our campus diversity and global awareness.
International students begin their studies needing guidance and services as they acclimate to their new environments and gain an understanding of the academic conventions and demands of the institution. They have many questions about customs and values, university regulations, academic issues, campus and community facilities, medical care, transportation, banking, shopping, and entertainment. The Office of International Programs serves as an information resource for all partners in the international education process. The Texan Embassy will formalize the process, link these partners, and provide a more organized support network.
Join us and be part of the charter membership of the Texan Embassy. We’re issuing this call to students, faculty, staff, and community members who have an interest in becoming part of a global network as an International Mentor.
