Accounts
The Information Technology Services (ITS) department would like to welcome you to Tarleton State University. We are here to help you with your information technology needs during your career at Tarleton.
We'd like to introduce you to some of the basics of Tarleton's information technology services. This information is provided as a guide to get you started.
What accounts and resources will I need to get started at Tarleton?
UID- this is a unique nine-digit number provided to you upon your admission to Tarleton. This number is used frequently to confirm your identity - so it is a good idea to have it memorized. If you don't know your UID, you may look it up at http://www.tarleton.edu/uidlookup
Ducktrax - Using DuckTrax, you can access your personal course schedules, grades, unofficial transcripts, and other information. You can also use DuckTrax to manage personal information and user preferences. Log on to Ducktrax with your UID and PIN at https://web01.tarleton.edu:85/
Email - your "firstname.lastname@go.tarleton.edu" account is your official university issued email address. Please check it frequently at http://outlook.com for important university information. This account is yours to keep for life. For detailed information on email options and configurations, see http://outlook.com/help
NTNET - this is Tarleton's network ID which you will use to log on to campus lab computers, wireless access points, and access the myGateway portal. Claim your NTNET account at http://www.tarleton.edu/userclaim either during an Orientation session or as your classes begin during your first semester. This is commonly referred to as your "ST_ account".
myGateway - this is Tarleton's web portal where many resources have been assembled for your convenience, including Ducktrax and Blackboard. If you have claimed your NTNET ID, login to myGateway at http://gateway01.tarleton.edu or click the myGateway link at the top of the Tarleton homepage.
Blackboard - Blackboard is a Web-based course-management system designed to allow students and faculty to participate in classes delivered online or use online materials and activities to complement face-to-face teaching. If you're enrolled in a course that uses Blackboard, be sure to ask your instructor how Blackboard will be used in that course. Login at http://online.tarleton.edu/Dual/DualLoginPage.htm with the same UID and PIN used for Ducktrax.
Passwords
All faculty, staff and students are required to reset their NTNET account password every 120 days for security reasons per the Texas Administrative Code 202.75 - Information Technology Services Security Safeguards. Beginning seven days prior to the expiration of your password, you will receive a daily email reminder to reset your password.
Expired passwords can be reset using the TSync service at www.tarleton.edu/password or can be reset by authorized Information Technology Services personnel after verifying the identity of the requestor.
For students who are unable to reset the password using TSync, we offer multiple locations where the password can be reset both in Stephenville and at the Killeen campus computer lab. For those who are unable to visit one of our reset locations, we do permit a fax or scanned image of the requestor's photo identification as a substitute for presenting identification in person. For the security of individuals and to protect his/her personal information, we do not archive faxes or imaged photos we receive.
What about account security?
Using a strong password and changing it often is the best method for ensuring that your personal information remains private. As a repository of your personal information, the University takes security very seriously and we're sure you do as well.
However, even a strong password can't protect your personal information if you forget to logout of any lab or other public computer. Please remember to logout of shared computers and don't share your account information with anyone!
