Graduate Certificates

The College of Graduate Studies offers 8 certificates to current graduate students. These 9-12 hour certificates will allow you to enhance your graduate degree by obtaining knowledge in a complimentary discipline of interest. Communication Studies Certificates

Organizational Communication

This nine-hour graduate certificate will enhance the master’s program in Communication Studies.

Obtain professional training and learn how communication shapes business and corporate culture. Courses required for the certificate are:

  • Organizational Communication (COMM 5304)
  • Small Group Communication (COMM 5323)
  • Communication Theory (COMM 5352)

Social Media & Computer Mediated Communication

This nine-hour graduate certificate will enhance the master’s program in Communication Studies.

Through this certificate, you will acquire professional training on social media strategy and computer-mediated communication. Courses required for the certificate are:

  • New Communication Technology (COMM 5310)
  • Applied Social Media (COMM 5311)
  • Computer Mediated Communication (COMM 5312)

Criminal Justice Certificates

Alternative Dispute Resolution

This 12-hour graduate certificate is offered to enhance the master’s program in Criminal Justice.

This certificate program will provide you with the skills for dispute resolution within a variety of settings. There are three required courses for the certificate:

  • Mediation (ADRI 5341)
  • Advanced Mediation (ADRI 5343)
  • Effective Communication for ADR Specialists (ADRI 5344)
  • One elective course of the student’s choosing from the other ADRI offerings

Cybercrime Field Response

This 12-hour graduate certificate is offered to enhance the master’s program in Criminal Justice.

This graduate certificate offers applied knowledge in the area of cybercrime, cybersecurity, and digital forensics and allows you to focus your degree in this area of specialty. The required courses are:

  • Global Cyber-Security (CRIJ 5353)
  • Introduction to Digital Forensics (CRIJ 5354)
  • Cellular Forensics (CRIJ 5355)
  • Digital Forensics Analysis (CRIJ 5356)

Strategic Studies

This 12-hour certificate is offered to enhance the master's degree in Criminal Justice.

This certificate will allow you to tailor your master’s degree for a specialty in global security issues. There are two required courses:

  • Terrorism (CRIJ 5351)
  • Homeland Security (CRIJ 5352)
  • In addition, students would choose two of the following courses: Global Cyber-Security (CRIJ 5353), Intersection of Domestic and Military Policing (CRIJ 5365), Transnational Trafficking (CRIJ 5349) or Executive Leadership (CRIJ 5375).

Kinesiology Certificates

Athletic Administration

This nine-hour graduate certificate is offered to enhance the master's program in Kinesiology.

Obtain applied knowledge in the area of Athletic Administration, specifically in administration of athletic programs at the youth, high school and collegiate level. You may choose three of the following courses for the certificate:

  • Advanced Psychological Aspects of Sports (KINE 5302)
  • Administration of Athletics (KINE 5305)
  • Facilities in Kinesiology, Athletics and Recreation (KINE 5326)
  • History of Sport and Physical Education (KINE 5370)
  • 9 hours of 5000 level program electives

Health & Wellness

This nine-hour graduate certificate is offered to enhance the master’s program in Kinesiology.

Through this certificate, you will acquire applied knowledge in the area of Health and Wellness, including health, fitness, rehabilitative and wellness professions. You may choose three of the following courses for the certificate:

  • School and Community Health (KINE 5306)
  • Exercise Prescription Through the Lifespan (KINE 5325)
  • Adapted and Therapeutic Exercise (KINE 5328)
  • Motor Learning (KINE 5324)
  • 9 hours of 5000 level program electives

Sports Medicine

This nine-hour graduate certificate is offered to enhance the master’s program in Kinesiology.

Further your knowledge in the area of Sports Medicine, specifically in the care of athletes and the physically active. You may choose three of the following courses for the certificate:

  • Contemporary Issues in Sports Medicine (KINE 5312)
  • Administrative Practices in Sports Medicine (KINE 5313)
  • Special Topics in Sports Medicine (KINE 5314)
  • Education and Research in Sports Medicine (KINE 5315)
  • Leadership and Professional Development in Sports Medicine (KINE 5316)
  • 9 hours of 5000 level program electives
