Sunday Afternoon Programs

The W.K. Gordon Center hosts free programs featuring guest speakers and authors once a month on Sunday afternoons. Programs cover a variety of topics relating to Texas industrial history, Thurber and local industries. Past events have included programs by Veldhuizen Cheese Company, author Dr. Gene Tucker's book "Oysters, Macaroni & Beer", Dino-Club beekeepers, wine tastings and many more! Night at the Opera House

From the 1920's to the 1930's, Thurber's famous Opera House showed silent and black & white films. The Night at the Opera House is a free public program that features films shown during this time period. Films are shown in the W.K. Gordon's recreated Opera House located inside the museum. Past movies have included the 1933 Dracula, 1920 The Sheik, 1933 Alice in Wonderland and more! 

Join the Gordon Center for a frightfully good time with our free screening of the 1935 classic, Bride of Frankenstein on Saturday, October 28, at 6:30pm. Featuring master of horror Boris Karloff as the monster, this film is guaranteed to get you in the Halloween spirit.  This event is free but seating is limited; reservations are recommended. Special Events

Museum after Dark is back on Saturday, October 21, at 7pm and it's taken a sinister turn. There’s been a murder in Thurber and you’re the detective! Use your sleuthing skills to study the murder weapon, question suspects, and crack the case. Join us for free refreshments as we celebrate your successful investigation!

Trunk-or-Treat at the Museum: Where better to spend Halloween than Texas’ most famous ghost town? Come out to the Gordon Center for free trunk or treating on Tuesday, October 31 from 5-7pm. Trick or treat both outside and inside the museum! This event is open to all ages and costumes are encouraged!
