We recently asked our students: “What brought you to Tarleton?”

[Students write their answers on chalkboards.]

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Vision” and smiles.]

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Following my childhood dreams” and smiles.]

Female Student: When I was 3 years old, I decided I wanted to be a vet. When I was 16, I started volunteering at Cook’s Childrens and decided I wanted to be a pediatrician. That led to me to wanting to be a chemist, which led me to Tarleton. Hence, I’m following my childhood dreams.

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Nursing” and smiles.]

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Family & Track” and smiles.]

Male Student: I came here to set an example for my family and to run track.

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “spirit,” “family,” “tradition,” “community,” and a block T and smiles.]

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “The ability to learn in a family atmosphere” and smiles.]

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Fellowship & History” and smiles.]

Male Student: Two biggest reasons I decided to transfer to Tarleton are probably because at Tarleton, it’s a small enough university that I don’t feel like I’m just going to be swallowed up by the sea of students, and I’m not just a number, and also because my grandfather went here whenever it was still a two year college years and years ago, so I figure I might be able to join in the history, too.

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Family” and smiles.]

Student: I followed my sister to Tarleton, but with all my time in the chemistry department, I found an extended family.

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Faculty who really care. They make great teachers, mentors, and friends” and smiles.]

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Music” and smiles.]

Female Student: One of the music faculty led me here, and since then she has helped to guide me.

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “A New Beginning” and smiles.]

Male Student: I was looking for something new and better in my life, and I found Tarleton.

[Male student plays piano. Later he holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Experiences” and smiles.]

Male Student: The experience I have received here at Tarleton I wouldn’t have received anywhere else.

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Pursuing my passions.”]

Female Student: Tarleton has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of modern day agriculture.

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Opportunities & Connections.”]

Male Student: The opportunities and connections that Tarleton has offered me the past three years are the reasons I’m going to college here. I’ve had the opportunity to get an education at a lower cost than at most universities in the state of Texas, and the fact that it is a Texas A&M System school has offered many connections with alumni from both universities.

Female Student: I am determined to finish my college degree and pursue a career in public relations.

[Female student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Dreams.”]

Female Student: For my future endeavors to come true.

[Male student holds up a chalkboard inscribed with “Mom.”]

Male Student: This is the main reason why I’m coming to college and why I want to pursue my dream of becoming a pharmacist one day. My mother has been sick over the past few years and has had several surgeries, and she in no time soon is going to be getting any better. So every day is constant struggle for her to live and deal with all the pain she goes through, and that was -- It’s pretty much what’s pushing me to go ahead and finish college because I want to have a really great paying job and support her when she gets older and give her everything that she has given to me in order for me to get here. And hopefully one day, I will be able to repay the favor and money will never be an issue. And the only issue she will have is just having more time with me, and that’s all I want to give her. Thank you.

Tarleton’s students are inspired by you and are truly grateful for your continued support.

Thank you.

Wherever you direct your gift, you’ll be helping Tarleton make an impact on students, on the community and on the world.
