Internships (Graduate Assistantships)
Because most students obtaining degrees in English ultimately pursue college level teaching, the program places a strong emphasis on composition training. All students who serve as graduate assistants also enroll in a two-semester teaching internship program. This internship allows the students to observe an experienced composition teacher and to meet regularly to discuss contemporary approaches and teaching strategies. Interns get experience teaching both courses in the freshman composition sequence.
