What is CAPTCHA?

CAPTCHA or Captcha is an acronym for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart." It is an application that verifies if a form was submitted by a computer or a human by using a test that can only be solved by a human.  By using this application, Tarleton is able to cut down on the amount of SPAM sent through the website.

The Captcha system Tarleton is using is called reCAPTCHA. reCAPTCHA uses the CAPTCHA idea to help digitize text from books and other forms of scanned text, making content before the computer age available in electronic format.
